POT#4 TANDOORI CHAI

Tandoori chai, a smoky flavored one is a unique variety of Indian Tea. It was originated from the city Pune of the state Maharastra, India.

The distinctiveness of the tea is that it is prepared by blistering the earthen cups(mud cups). When the cups are red-hot, the prepared milk tea is poured in, which sizzles and froths over. The searing mud clay cups gives the smoky flavor and make the tea highly gratifying.

You may not need to travel Pune to taste the chai. Here goes the recipe of tandoori chai.

Quantity: 2 servings

Let us now check out the required ingredients for the Tandoori tea.

Ingredients:

                Milk                      - 1 cup

                Water                   -  1 1/2 cup

                Tea powder          -  2 tbsp

                Sugar                   - 2 tsp/ as required

                Cardamom pods  - 4

                Ginger                  - 1-inch piece   

Procedure 

  1. Boil the water in a vessel.
  2. Add powdered cardamom and crushed ginger to it and allow it to boil.
  3. Now add tea powder, sugar, and continue to boil it.
  4. Now add a cup of milk to it and boil for two minutes.
  5. Turn off the heat and strain the tea in a vessel.
  6. Place a mud cup in the flame and heat it up for 10 minutes in medium flame.
  7. Once the cup is red-hot, place the cup in a wide vessel.
  8. Now pour the strained hot tea over the mud cup.
  9. You could see the sizzling and frothy tea oozing out the mud cup.
  10. Once the sizzling settles down, transfer the tea to a cup.
  11. Sit back and enjoy the earthy flavor in every sip of your smoked tea. 

Tips and Tricks:

  1. Make sure that the mud cup is red-hot, then only you taste the smoked flavor of the tea.
  2. Place the red-hot cup in a wide vessel, as the tea is poured it may ooze out.
