Ragi/ Finger millet has its origin in East Africa and is being cultivated around Africa and Asia. Ragi is a rich source of calcium and potassium, it also a good source of iron, magnesium, and zinc. Ragi is also full of amino acids like valine, threonine, leucine, phenylalanine, and many others. It is believed that Ragi is highly nutritious when compared to other millets or cereals. Let us now check out the required ingredients.

Ingredients: 

Ragi flour                              - 1 cup
Country sugar                       - 1/2 cup
Milk(chilled)                           - 3/4 cup
Vegetable oil                         - 1/3 cup
Choco powder                       - 1/3 cup
Baking powder                      - 1 tsp  
Salt                                        - a pinch
Vanilla essence                      - 1/2 tsp
Chocolate(roughly chopped)  - 1 tbsp (optional)


Procedure:

  1. Take oil in a cup and add the country sugar to it. Whisk well until the sugar gets dissolved.

  2. Now add Ragi flour, choco powder, baking powder, and a pinch of salt.

  3. Also, add the chilled milk and vanilla essence to it.

  4. Mix well until everything is well combined.

  5. Now grease a container with oil/ghee.

  6. Pour the mixture into the container and pat it.

  7. Top out the chopped chocolate over it.

  8. Bake it at 180 degrees for 20 minutes in a pre-heated oven.

  9. Once it is done, allow it to cool down and slice it out.

  10. And is now ready to serve.

Tips and Tricks:

  1. Adjust the sweetness as per your taste.
  2. You can use brown sugar, powdered jaggery as a sweetener substitute.
  3. Bake in a preheated pressure cooker/ pan by removing gasket, without pressure whistle for 20 minutes in medium flame.
  4. Bake until the toothpick in the center comes out clean. 
  5. You can also top with desired nuts instead of chopped chocolates.
  6. It is best served with chocolate sauce and ice-cream.
